Quote of the Day

In a conversation today I heard the best quote from my man Silver!

"Some guys read Field and Stream. Me, I read Cosmo. Guess it all depends on what you are hunting."

Hey, boys! Pay attention here--he knows whereof he speaks!

Bogart's Slow Dance #3 Therapy!

So tonight there was a Halloween Tales and Tails Party at Callahan's Crosstime Saloon. Amanda won the contest with her story--something about a hooker? Anyway I got there late and was bummed that I had missed it, bummed that I hadn't seen all the friends I wanted to see.

But then Jamesen logged in-world and stole me away to go dancing at Bogart's Jazz Club! My hero...

Thing about Bogarts is that you really need to dress up. So I asked him what color I should wear and he said red. I dug deep in the closet and found this slinky number I'd gotten ages ago from DE Designs. Threw on a pair of sparkley strappy shoes. He put on his best tux, and tp'ed me to Bogart's.

While the place is usually packed the lag is pretty low. The music is soft jazz, Sinatra-esque. Perfect for a quiet evening of slow dancing and sexy talk.

Smiling now.

A song for all lovers separated by time and space and circumstance: "Love Remains the Same"

A thousand times I've seen you standing
gravity like a lunar landing
make me want to run till I find you
shut the world away from here, drift to you, you're all I hear
everything we know fades to black . . .

So much more to say, so much to be done
don't you trick me out, we shall overcome
cause our love stays ablaze. . . .

A song for a raw-around-the-edges Thursday: Sarah McLachlan "Do What You Have To Do"

What ravages of spirit conjured this temptuous rage?
Created you a monster; broken by the rule of love.
And fate has led you through it,
You do what you have to do.
Oh, and fate has led you through it,
You do what you have to do.
But I have the sense to recognize that I don't know how to let you go.

Every moment marked with apparitions of your soul.
I'm ever swiftly moving; trying to escape this desire.
The yearning to be near you,
I do what I have to do.
Oh, the yearning to be near you,
I do what I have to do.
And I have the sense to recognize that I don’t know how to let you go.
I don’t know how to let you go.

A glowing ember, burning hot, and burning slow.
Deep within I'm shaken by the violence of existing for only you.
I know I can't be with you,
I do what I have to do.
I know I can't be with you,
I do what I have to do.
And I have the sense to recognize that I don't know how to let you go.
I don't know how to let you go.
I don't know how to let you go.

Callahan's Crosstime Saloon has a New Location

Sad news, Callahan's had to leave the lovely New Conch Republic sim they were on.

Good news, Callahan's has a new home in Karyukai!

And so the usual suspects gathered on Tuesday night to see The Place in its new location. Here's me and Amanda and Cisop chatting at a table. Bes, Daeron, Crystal, and Oliron in the back there.

The thing about the Callihooligans is they just can't help punning--or funning--even on an Unday. Juneberry treated us to a fashion show of her avatar collection, bat, bird, dragon et al. Obsidian tromped around upside down with his plunger anti-grav boots on the ceiling. Talvin, the ever meticulous, was still rearranging furniture at the end of the evening.

And as all too often happens, Amanda and I closed the bar.

Callahan's is the best of places. C'mon by on a Tuesday for Punday, or a Friday for Trivia night.

Medieval Trivia this Friday (Oct. 23rd). Hosted by the brilliant and beautiful Bes!  See you there?

A song for you: "Crack The Shutters" by Snow Patrol

it's been minutes, it's been days
it's been all i will remember
happy lost in your hair
and the cold side of the pillow
your hills and valleys
are mapped by my intrepid fingers
and in a naked slumber
i dream all this again

Song for a grey Monday: "I Believe in You" by Amanda Marshall

Somewhere there's a river, looking for a stream
Somewhere there's a dreamer, looking for a dream
Somewhere there's a drifter, trying to find his way
Somewhere someone's waiting to hear somebody say:

I believe in you, and I can't even count the ways that
I believe in you, and all I want to do is help you to believe in you.

Irish music night at Callahan's

If you have never been to Callahan's Crosstime Saloon you need to go. Take a Tuesday or a Friday evening and head over to the Keys and hang out. Meet Harry the Parrot, Talvin and Leb (bartenders extraordinaire), and try your hand at puns or trivia.

Dancing with Jamesen in Crescent Moon

Second Life is a like a dance. A complexity of steps in which we give just enough, take just enough. maybe even love just enough.

Always moving in and out of the patterns. Watching our footwork, trying not to be too distracted by the touch of another's virtual hand, of another's real soul.

Last night I went dancing with Jamesen in SL. I have known him for over 2 years, and yet I barely know him at all. SL is like that sometimes. People come into your life, share as much or as little as they can, as they want. They move out of your life, come back again. And all you can hope for is second chances. Sometimes a friend like this who asks nothing more than to be a friend is a gift beyond measure.

Thank you, Jamesen, for taking me dancing and helping me destress at the end of a long strange week. To paraphrase Rick in Casablanca: "I think this is the continuation of a beautiful friendship."
